LoL Betting Odds Explained

League of Legends has the deepest betting market of any esport, over a billion players have touched the game across its history, four major regional leagues run simultaneously for most of the year, and the breadth of individual game events that can be bet on within any single match exceeds almost any other competitive title.

Understanding how those markets work, and where the pricing is sharp versus soft, is the difference between informed LoL betting and guesswork dressed up with team loyalty.

This guide covers every LoL betting market available on Duelbits, how decimal odds work in League of Legends context, the game mechanics that drive each market's outcome, and how Worlds changes everything about how odds behave relative to regional form.

LoL Match Formats

Format determines which markets exist for any given match. Always confirm format before placing.

Best-of-1 (Bo1)

One game. The match ends with that game's result. Common in Worlds group stage (single round-robin phase), Play-In stages, and some regional league formats.

Available markets in Bo1: Game winner (moneyline), total kills, first blood, first tower, first dragon, first Baron, game duration.

No series markets: there is only one game.

Variance warning: Bo1 is the highest-variance format in LoL. Even a 90th-percentile favourite loses a Bo1 more frequently than their overall rating suggests. Upsets are structurally more common in Bo1 than Bo3 or Bo5.

Best-of-3 (Bo3)

Standard format for most LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS regular season and playoff matches. First team to win two games wins the series.

Available markets: Series winner, game winner (Game 1, Game 2, Game 3 if played), map handicap (-1.5/+1.5), total games over/under (2.5), total kills per game, first objective markets per game.

Best-of-5 (Bo5)

Used at major international playoff brackets (Worlds knockout, MSI knockouts) and domestic grand finals. First to three game wins.

Additional to Bo3 markets: Map handicap at -2.5/+2.5, Game 4 and Game 5 individual markets when series extends.

How to Read LoL Decimal Odds

All League of Legends markets on Duelbits use decimal format.

The Formula

Total return = Stake × Decimal odds
Profit = Return − Stake
Implied probability = (1 ÷ Decimal odds) × 100

LoL Odds Examples

TeamDecimal OddsImplied Probability$100 Stake Returns
T1 (favourite)1.5564.5%$155 ($55 profit)
Gen.G (underdog)2.6537.7%$265 ($165 profit)

Combined implied probability: 64.5% + 37.7% = 102.2%, the 2.2% excess is the bookmaker's overround (margin). To strip that margin and find the fair no-vig probability, use our No-Vig Fair Odds Calculator.

Reading Favourites vs Underdogs

A team at 1.45 implies a 68.9% win probability. In League of Legends, this is a genuinely high confidence position, unlike soccer where 1.45 might reflect a matchup where the underdog has a realistic path.

However, LoL Bo1 results diverge significantly from team quality rankings. A 70th-percentile team beats a 90th-percentile team in Bo1 far more often than the implied 30% chance suggests, partly due to draft variance, patch dependency, and the inherently volatile early game. Short prices in Bo1 LoL markets are more frequently overconfident than in Bo3 or Bo5.

LoL Bet Types: Every Market Explained

1. Series Winner (Match Winner)

The most popular LoL bet, who wins the overall Bo3 or Bo5.

Wins when: Your team wins the required number of games (2 in Bo3, 3 in Bo5).

Best used when: You have a clear directional view on which team is stronger overall, factoring in roster quality, current patch strength, and draft versatility. Series winner markets at Worlds and MSI are priced from the widest data set, more accurate pricing than regional domestic matches.

Example:

MarketOdds
T1 to win series1.62
BLG to win series2.38

T1 at 1.62 implies a 61.7% series win probability. If you assess T1's champion pool depth, coaching staff preparation, and current patch meta advantage as closer to 70%, the position has positive expected value.

2. Game Winner (Individual Game Result)

Each game in a series is independently bettable, Game 1, Game 2, Game 3.

Why game winner matters differently from series winner:

In LoL, neither team selects a "home map" the way CS2 teams pick maps. Both teams draft fresh champions each game without a guaranteed structural advantage, except for side selection. The team that wins the previous game typically gets first pick of side (blue or red side) in the next game, and side selection in the current meta has significant implications for draft structure.

Blue side vs red side dynamics:

In most LoL metas, blue side has first pick in champion select. Red side has last pick (the ability to counter the final blue side pick). Which side advantage is stronger depends on which champions are dominant in the current patch, in priority-pick metas, blue side wins more; in counter-pick metas, red side often has an edge.

Tracking which team performs better on each side, available from op.gg and competitive stat sites, is essential context for individual game winner betting when side selection is known.

3. Map Handicap (Game Handicap)

A handicap applied to the number of games won in a series.

HandicapMeaningWins when
Favourite -1.5Must sweep 2-0Series ends 2-0 for the favourite
Underdog +1.5Gets 1.5 game head startUnderdog wins at least 1 game (1-2 or 2-0 or 2-1)

Example:

MarketOdds
T1 -1.5 (must sweep)2.45
BLG +1.5 (just needs 1 game)1.57

When to use map handicap in LoL:

Take -1.5 on a dominant team when: A team has a dramatically superior champion pool and the current patch strongly favours their preferred champions. In patches where 2-3 meta-defining champions are clearly dominant and one team has primary access to all of them through draft priority, the probability of a sweep increases substantially.

Take +1.5 on an underdog when: The underdog has a specific signature strategy or champion comfort zone that can win at least one game regardless of overall quality differential. LCK teams in particular frequently win individual games against LPL opponents at international events even when losing series, the +1.5 market undervalues this pattern historically.

4. Total Games (Series Length)

Predicts how many games are played in the series, almost always framed as over/under 2.5 in a Bo3.

SelectionWins when
Over 2.5Series goes to three games (either 2-1 result)
Under 2.5Series sweeps 2-0 (either direction)

What drives total games in LoL:

  • Draft versatility gap: When one team has a significantly wider champion pool and better draft preparation, sweeps occur more frequently. Dominant teams with clear draft priority in the current meta do not give opponents games to adapt, the series ends at 2-0.
  • Stylistic opposites: When one team plays fast and aggressive (early tower focus, LPL-style) and one plays slow and methodical (LCK-style scaling), the game state benefits one team's composition much more strongly in specific maps, leading to each team winning their preferred game state and the series going to three.
  • Series fatigue and mental reset: Teams that lose Game 1 sometimes play Game 2 very differently, either a complete strategy reset or an emotional over-correction. Game 2 is the highest-variance game in any LoL series, which pushes Over 2.5 frequency higher than the pure quality differential suggests.

5. Total Kills (Over/Under)

Predicts the combined kills by both teams in a specific game. Typical lines: 25.5 to 35.5 per game.

LineUnder wins whenOver wins when
Under 25.5≤25 total kills26+ kills
Under 30.5≤30 total kills31+ kills
Over 35.536+ total kills≤35 kills

The draft is the primary total kills predictor:

High-kill composition signals:

  • Multiple mobile assassins (Zed, Talon, Katarina)
  • Engage-heavy support (Leona, Nautilus, Thresh)
  • Early-game jungle (Lee Sin, Vi, Elise)
  • ADC with all-in potential (Draven, Tristana)
  • LPL teams specifically, Chinese teams statistically produce higher kill totals than other regions in comparable matchups

Low-kill composition signals:

  • Scaling carry ADC (Jinx, Kog'Maw, Aphelios)
  • Wave-clear mid laner (Azir, Orianna, Viktor)
  • Peel-oriented support (Janna, Lulu, Soraka)
  • Objective-focused jungle (Hecarim, Ivern, Nunu)
  • LCK teams, Korean teams produce statistically lower kill totals than LPL at similar quality levels

Regional kill differential: Research consistently shows that LPL (Chinese) teams average significantly more kills per game than LCK (Korean) teams. When an LPL team faces an LCK team, the total kills line should be priced toward the middle of both teams' averages, and the market frequently underweights the LPL team's tendency to produce high-action games even against defensive opponents.

6. First Blood

Who gets the first kill in a specific game.

Why first blood matters in LoL:

First blood awards 400 gold (double standard kill gold) to the killer, enough to purchase a significant component item. This economic advantage in the first few minutes of a 35-40 minute game compounds through the early game. The team that draws first blood wins the subsequent trading around the first objective (Dragon or Rift Herald) at a statistically higher rate.

What drives first blood in LoL:

  • Draft aggression signals: Champions with reliable early CC (Zac, Rek'Sai, Shyvana) in the jungle role and supports with level 2 all-in capability (Leona, Nautilus) produce first blood at higher rates. Counting the aggressive engage elements in each team's draft gives a directional read on who is more likely to draw first blood.
  • Jungle pathing tendencies: Some junglers are known for invading the enemy jungle at level 1-2, creating high first blood probability. Teams with Lee Sin or Shaco in the jungle specifically should be tracked for first blood rate, these champions produce invade-focused first bloods more than any other role.
  • Market pricing: First blood is typically priced close to 50/50 regardless of draft. Teams with demonstrably higher first blood rates, available on competitive stats sites, are frequently underpriced in first blood markets.

7. First Tower

Which team destroys the first tower in the game.

The first tower is significant in League of Legends because it awards bonus gold (450 split between nearby teammates) and typically signals which team is winning their primary lane. The team that takes the first tower in a game wins that game at a statistically notable rate, particularly in high-level professional play where first tower nearly always goes to the team with lane priority and superior map pressure.

First tower research: Track which teams prioritise early rift herald for first tower pressure vs which teams play for lane-trading and late-game composition. This strategic tendency is consistent within team identities across a season.

8. First Dragon / First Baron Nashor

First Dragon predicts which team takes the first elemental drake in the game. Dragons in LoL are objective buffs that stack, the team that consistently wins drakes (Ocean, Cloud, Mountain, Infernal, Chemtech, Hextech) builds a stat advantage into mid/late game. First dragon typically goes to the team that controls the bottom-side river, the ADC and support duo's performance in the early game determines first drake more than any other factor.

First Baron Nashor predicts which team kills Baron Nashor, the powerful neutral objective that spawns at 20 minutes. Baron provides a buff that enhances minions to enable siege and tower destruction, the most commonly decisive objective in deciding game outcomes at professional level.

Baron is typically secured by the team that is winning mid-game (has gold lead) and has the frontline and engage composition to set up the Baron pit fight. Teams with strong mid-game champions that create vision control around objectives (Rek'Sai for tunnel engage, Rumble for zone control) are structurally better at Baron setup.

First Baron is one of the most predictive individual events for game outcome, the team that wins Baron in professional play converts it into game-winning advantages at extremely high rates. First Baron markets reward knowledge of which team's composition is built for mid-game objective play.

9. Tournament Outright Winner

Long-range bets on which team wins an entire tournament, available for all active LoL events including Worlds, MSI, LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS.

Available via Duelbits Esports → League of Legends → Outrights.

Outright strategy for LoL:

Worlds is the highest-variance major event. Regional champion teams sometimes underperform their domestic form due to the meta shift between regional play and international preparation. Korean teams (historically T1, Gen.G) have won Worlds more frequently than their regional form alone would predict, international preparation, scouting, and champion depth all compound at multi-week tournament formats.

MSI is the more volatile international event. With a smaller field and a shorter tournament, MSI upsets occur more frequently than Worlds. Regional form from spring splits is the primary input but adapts quickly to international meta, teams that spring-split dominated their region on a specific patch may face a different meta by MSI.

The LoL Competitive Structure

The Four Major Regions

RegionLeagueKey TeamsStyle
KoreaLCKT1, Gen.G, DRX, KT RolsterMethodical, scaling, low-kill
ChinaLPLBLG, NRG, LGD, EDGAggressive, high-kill, skirmish
EuropeLECG2, FNC, MAD LionsVariable; tactical flexibility
North AmericaLCSCloud9, Team Liquid, 100TDefensive; lower raw talent ceiling vs KR/CN

The regional edge in betting: LCK vs LPL matchups at MSI and Worlds are the most analytically rich cross-regional bet type. Historical data shows LCK teams win the series at rates that exceed their individual game win rate, they lose individual games at a higher rate than LPL teams but convert closer series through superior adaptation. This creates value opportunities in map handicap (+1.5 LCK) even when the series moneyline favours LPL.

LoL Betting Strategy

Apply draft composition to specific markets: A team that drafts an assassin-heavy early composition is a first blood candidate and an Over kill total candidate, before a single ability is cast. Reading the draft before placing in-play bets is the most direct information advantage in LoL.

Track the patch cadence: Riots two-week patch cycle creates regular windows where team rankings based on previous patch data are partially misleading. A team whose win rate was built on a champion that was nerfed last Tuesday is not as strong as their record implies. The first 3-5 days after a major patch are where market pricing is softest.

LCK +1.5 at international events: Korean teams consistently win individual games at international events even when losing series to LPL opponents. In Bo3 matchups at MSI and Worlds between LCK and LPL teams, the +1.5 map handicap on the LCK team is frequently underpriced relative to the historical individual game win rate differential.

First objective markets over moneylines in dominant matchups: When a very strong favourite (1.25 or shorter) is playing a clear underdog, the moneyline offers minimal return. First dragon, first Baron, and first blood markets on the favourite in these matchups often carry better implied value, the strong favourite takes first objectives at near-certain rates in dominant games.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do LoL betting odds work?
Decimal format on Duelbits. Multiply stake by odds for total return. Implied probability = 1 ÷ odds × 100. Markets cover series winner, individual game winner, map handicap, kill totals, first blood, first tower, first dragon, first Baron, and outright tournament winner.

What is a map handicap in LoL?
-1.5 means the favourite must sweep 2-0 in a Bo3. +1.5 means the underdog covers by winning at least one game, even losing the series 1-2.

What drives total kills in LoL?
Draft composition. Aggressive early-game champions with engage and skirmish potential produce high-kill games. Scaling carries and methodical siege compositions produce low-kill games. LPL teams produce higher kill totals than LCK teams historically.

What is first blood in LoL betting?
A market predicting which team gets the first kill. First blood awards double gold (400) and is significantly influenced by each team's draft aggression and jungler pathing style. Often priced near 50/50 regardless of draft, creating opportunities for informed bettors.

What is first Baron Nashor?
A market predicting which team kills Baron Nashor first, the powerful neutral objective that spawns at 20 minutes. Teams that win Baron convert it into game-winning siege at extremely high rates in professional play. One of the most strategically predictive LoL prop markets.

Which LoL tournaments should I follow?
LCK, LPL, LEC, LCS (seasonal leagues), MSI (May international), and Worlds (October-November world championship). All are available on Duelbits Esports.
