Solheim Cup 2026: Betting Preview

The 20th edition of the Solheim Cup arrives at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands, a venue and a country hosting the competition for the first time, and the market has essentially called it a coin flip.

The 2026 Solheim Cup begins on September 7 at Bernardus in the Netherlands, where the European team will be looking to avenge a 15.5-12.5 loss to the United States two years ago in Virginia. USA are defending champions, priced at 1.97. Europe are on home soil (or close enough, the Netherlands is European ground and the Dutch crowd will be partial), priced at 2.00.

The near-identical prices are justified by the near-identical arguments. USA have Nelly Korda, the dominant world number one. Europe have home advantage and a squad that won or retained three consecutive Solheim Cups from 2019 to 2023. Both captains are making their Solheim Cup captain debut. Both teams have four players making their debut in the competition.

This is genuinely one of the most evenly matched Solheim Cups in recent memory, and the betting reflects that.

Why there are two separate markets: The "Match Winner" market includes a draw as a distinct outcome. The "To Lift the Trophy" market is two-way only, because USA retain the trophy if the competition ends 14-14. As current holders, the US will retain the trophy if the contest ends in a 14-14 draw. This is why USA are 1.72 to "lift" while 1.97 to "win", the draw scenario benefits them.

How the Solheim Cup Works

The Solheim Cup is a three-day competition played between teams of 12 players from the USA and Europe. There are 28 matches played over the three days, under three different types of match play, foursomes, fourballs and singles, with each match worth one point to the team total. The team which gets to 14.5 points first will win the Solheim Cup.

Day-by-Day breakdown:

DaySessionMatches
Friday (Sep 11)Foursomes AM + Fourballs PM8 matches
Saturday (Sep 12)Fourballs AM + Foursomes PM8 matches
Sunday (Sep 13)Singles12 matches

The Sunday singles are decisive. With 12 points available on the final day, no lead after Day 2 is safe. In 2015, the USA trailed 10-6 after two days and won 14.5-13.5, the biggest comeback in Solheim Cup history. Any lead going into Sunday needs to be at least 3-4 points to be considered commanding.

Team USA: The Defending Champions

Captain: Angela Stanford (first Solheim Cup as captain, three-time assistant)

Headlining the U.S. team is world No. 1 Nelly Korda, who dominated the LPGA Tour this season with four wins, including two major titles, along with three runner-up finishes.

Lindy DuncanCaptain's pickSolheim debut at age 35

As for Stanford's captain's picks, she chose Lindy Duncan, Meghan Khang and Rose Zhang. Duncan will be making her Solheim Cup debut at 35 years old, while Khang has dominated the team format with a 7-3-3 record in her four previous appearances. Zhang is a particularly interesting choice as the former phenom has slipped to 66th in the world rankings, but was incredible for the 2024 squad, going 4-0 in her matches.

USA's strengths: Korda is the best player in the field by a significant margin. The qualification system produced nine automatic picks who all have current form momentum. Khang's team record is exceptional and her leadership in foursomes and fourballs is invaluable.

USA's risk: Stanford's captain's picks are arguably the most debated. Duncan is a 35-year-old debutant. Zhang has slipped significantly from her 2024 form peak. If two of the three picks underperform, the supporting cast around Korda needs to carry more weight.

Team Europe: Home Advantage Hunters

Captain: Anna Nordqvist (three-time major champion, recently retired as player; assisted by Caroline Hedwall and Dutch golfer Anne van Dam)

The European squad is a fascinating mix of Solheim Cup veterans and rookies, as Nordqvist will have four players making their Solheim Cup debuts in the Netherlands.

Europe's strengths: The home setting is real, Netherlands is European soil and the crowd will be fervently pro-Europe. Charley Hull is in the best form of her career and thrives in team environments. Leona Maguire was the standout performer at Gleneagles (2021) and Finca Cortesin (2023). Maguire at 41.00 for top combined points scorer looks generous given her team format record.

Europe's risk: Three captain's picks are all making their Solheim debuts simultaneously. Nordqvist is also a first-time captain. Rookies in Solheim Cup can be transformative (see Maguire in 2021) or exposed. Four debut players is a significant introduction cohort for one team.

The Venue - Bernardus Golf, Netherlands

The Championship course, designed by American golf course architect Kyle Phillips, is described as a heathland golf course with tricky water hazards, a compact layout, an architecturally stunning clubhouse and world-class practice facilities. Sky Sports

Heathland golf at 7,076 yards (par 72), a course that rewards accuracy over length. This is a meaningful distinction for the betting: courses that reward precision over raw power tend to reduce Korda's individual dominance slightly, while benefiting accurate ball-strikers like Hull and Boutier.

The Netherlands crowd, partisan, loud, and experienced with major international sporting events, is Europe's 13th player. Home-crowd influence in Solheim Cup singles is well-documented. European players have historically won Sunday singles on home soil at significantly above their overall record.

2024Robert Trent Jones, USAUSA 15.5 – 12.5 EuropeFirst USA win since 2017

The pattern: three consecutive European victories or retentions (2019-2023) followed by a USA win on home soil in 2024. Both captains in 2026 are debuting. The venue returns to European soil. The trajectory of recent history argues for Europe.
